Appetite Enhancers Anyone???

Just wondering if some of you could provide clues as to what helps your appetite while taking chemo treatments.

I'm asking for another cancer patient who has had considerable weight loss and has almost no appetite whatsoever. While she is at home and not in hospital, it is becoming more difficult for her to have any desire to eat anything.

I'm hoping that someone out there just might have that magic potion to help her.

Thanks to everyone!!!

Recently, our daughter brought home a book from the library. It is called Healthy Eating During Chemotherapy, by Van Mil and Archer-Mackenzie. It is available on AMAZON for just $11.53. We have made many of the recipes for my husband. They are small, light, very nutritious meals. The authors address problems such as change in senses, nausea, diarrhoea, mouth sores, etc. A quick browse on AMAZON reveals many similiar recipe books. I wish we had done this earlier, because at one point my hubby had a rapid weight loss. He couldn't taste the food and was so nauseous he wouldn't eat! I hope this information is helpful.

Thanks for the great info. I will most definitely pass that along to others and will indeed locate a copy of that book as well.
Take care, Debbie

Hi Deb,

I lost my appetite completely when I was on HDIL2 which is really unusual for me.
For me the only thing I could manage was milkshakes. I tried those high protein drinks which they give you in hospital but they were horrible. So in the end I had just normal milkshakes, any flavour, cos at least you are getting some milk down you. This wouldnt be good for too long though - it lasted a couple of weeks for me then I slowly started eating again....soup to start with.
Hope your friend can find something which helps,

Jane
