Nutritious Breakfast Idea

Cancer patients may experience weight loss - sometimes due to loss of taste and no real desire to eat in your usual manner.  Tiredness as well is one of the most prevelant side effects of cancer treatments.

Here's a great breakfast recipe that I have been giving my husband.  It will help to increase your energy level and it's nutritous.  What is my secret ingredient?

PORRIDGE

Boil 1 1/4 cups of water in saucepan (makes one serving)

Add while stirring constantly
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 or 1 mashed banana
cinnamon to taste
1 teaspoon sugar (optional)

Adjust heat to "medium" and continue stirring for approx 2 minutes

Voila - you have just made a very nutrious breakfast.  Feel free to substitute the banana for any fresh fruit that is in season.  You may wish to add the fresh fruit directly ontop of the porridge once it's poured in the serving bowl.

Add milk and sugar to taste.

Enjoy!!!

God Is Always There

Went for a walk one morning last week in the early hours.  As caregiver, we also have difficult days but we tend to hide it from the outside world, because we are the ones who have to be strong and be there for our loved ones.

I have realized many times, especially over recent months, that when I am going through challenges - an angel always comes my way to let me know that I am not alone along this journey.  During my walk that day, a car slowly drove along side me and a kind, smiling face said "Good Morning".  We exchanged a short diaglogue and then the driver apologized for not being able to chat longer because he had a busy morning ahead.  These were his words before driving away:

"I hope you and your husband never think you are alone, because I pray for you both everyday"

Profound indeed!   I continued my walk and realized that God  "IS"  always there.

Take care everyone and KEEP THE FAITH!

Cancer Chat Cafe - A New Page

I have created a separate page to display my Chat Forum to allow a larger space for displaying viewer comments.  Many of you recently have been posting your comments and I would encourage everyone to  write your concerns and questions, along with experiences you have had with cancer either as a patient of caregiver.  It is through connecting with others that we ALL discover what works and what doesn't.  Having someone to chat with, also provides the support and encouragement we all need to help get us through, especially on those difficult days.

Just click the link above entitled "Cancer Chat Cafe" to access the chat.  I'm going to add another page as well so that I can list the types of cancer you comment about and any emails that you provide, so that others who travel a similiar journey, can connect with you.

Remember, KEEP THE FAITH and NEVER QUIT!!!

I will soon schedule a Live Chat (maybe during Easter week)...

Acid Reflux - Maybe Not!

Just thought I would pass this along for those of you who may have bouts of what may appear to be acid reflux.  Do you sometimes feel as though your food gets stuck mid-esophagus?  Maybe you have had bouts of vomiting as well.  Always check with your doctor whenever you have any of these symptoms, but one thing I wanted to pass along to you is to ask whether you are taking any of your pills and lying down immediately after?

If so, then you are setting yourself up for irritation of your esophagus which can lead to the above symptoms.  Some medications in particular can be very harsh on the espophagus, and if you take these meds and then lay down immediately after, you will probably feel the results of this within a couple of days.  It's always best to take your meds with lots of fluid and try to sit up for at least half an hour to allow the meds to get through your esophagus "before" you lay down.

Consult with your doctor first, but be vigilant when taking oral medications.
