The past few days of warmer temperatures is bringing new life to my garden. These daffodils are poking their way through the ground and although they won't be blooming in time for Easter, they will prevail and I will look forward to their beautiful colors within a few days.
I'm always amazed just how summer's beautiful blossoms die and disappear, only to create bigger and more bountiful bouquets in another season. Daffodils however bring a special meaning to me each year.
The daffodil is the Canadian Cancer Society's symbol of hope and renewal in the fight against cancer. It was chosen because of its reputation as a hardy annual flower, pushing its way through the frozen earth after a long winter to herald the return of Spring, new life, vitality and growth. Such an inspiring flower!!!
The sale of daffodils has already begun in many cities across our country. I trust that you will support the cause and purchase some of these beautiful blooms. If you would like to read the story of the origin of "Daffodil Days", please follow this link
